We were delighted to join members of the University College of Dublin (UCD) ESHTE internal working group who invited Cath Prescott from the Equality and Diversity Office from the University of Manchester to present on reporting incidents of sexual harassment and violence including anonymous reporting, as well as the development of a bystander intervention module to support the institute's harassment prevention approach.
Cath spoke of the challenges both staff and students across the institute face in implementing mechanisms to tackle all forms of harassment faced by students ranging from hate crime to sexual assault. There has been excellent collaboration between students and staff to raise awareness of the prevalence of harassment on campus and to set down a series of options open to students who are in need of support. The University will launch an exciting new campaign for the 2018/2019 academic year where students will be encouraged to report incidents of harassment and will hopefully feel more comfortable in doing so.
We would like to thank our project partners - the staff and student's union at UCD for inviting us to participate in this insightful presentation and we also commend them on their efforts to work collaboratively to make their campus a safer space for students and staff to enjoy.
